Numerical analysis is the mathematical understanding of external events based on their recorded numerical values. Statistics is the science of collecting and analyzing numerical data in order to draw conclusions, attain knowledge, and make decisions.

Both are, amongst other applications, the foundations of financial modeling and therefore very important in the field of finance.
